FANCINE OPENS THE DOORS TO ITS 33rd EDITION WITH SOY UNA PRINGADA’S LOUTISH FANTASY AND BIZARRENESS

The popular YouTuber presented an unclassifiable opening gala that culminated with the screening of Michel Gondry’s film The book of Solutions

“Tomato Town is the salvation”. The 33rd edition of Fancine has officially open tonight with this surrealist war cry, the fantastic film festival of University of Malaga, which dedicated this anniversary to housing as the main topic under the motto “Home Sweet Home”. Esty Quesada, the popular YouTuber known as Soy una pringada, has been the architect of this particular slogan that the Albéniz’s audience has chanted with one voice. She has presented an unclassifiable opening gala with her characteristic boorish style, bizarreness, and dark humor. In her speech, the influencer has narrated, confessed that she wouldn’t follow the rehearsed script, a shady anecdote about a paranormal (and illegal) experience that ended up on a police station and in which took part “Public Enemy Number 1”, María José la valenciana, a ouija and minors in robes.

But before that, the Deputy Rector of Culture of UMA, Tecla Lumbreras, had already performed her traditional cameo appearance at the opening ceremony, starring along the actress and programmer of the Contenedor Cultural Alessandra García in the opening sketch, in which, with lots of comical references, Lumbreras simulated “hanging her working apron”, referencing the end of her era in the university government, and cleaning all the “stains” she had left behind her career before this festival. The sympathetic intervention culminated with a blonde wig for the Deputy Rector, who bid farewell in her last Fancine edition with the same colour and festive tone which she has assumed the Service of Culture with.

Once finished the presentation, the film that would start the nine-days event was screened, The Book of Solutions, the new work of the acclaimed French director Michel Gondry. In this comedy, a producer stuck with the editing of his film escapes to a little village to find the inspiration he is missing and, to do that, he starts to write a manual of practical advice which can be the solution to his creative block. This screening, premiere in Spain, counted with a packed audience, and sold-out tickets since the beginning of the week.

Program Thursday, November 9

After the launching event, the Fancine activities will continue on Thursday evening with the first competition screenings of the program and the parallel activities, including the screening of the play Black Phone in the Contenedor Cultural in charge of Mu Teatro. In the Albéniz, the audience voting will start with the screening of Mars Express the animation film that has sneaked this year into the official competition, and Little Bone Lodge, a British home invasion that will have its national premiere as part of the festival. Before this screening, the journalist Moisés Rodríguez will receive a recognition for his outreach work of the broadcasting in the show that hosts in the Spanish channel, TVE.

Furthermore, the screenings of the other sections of the showtime will begin. The Rectorate will host the first session of Home Sweet Asian Home, the cycle coordinated by CineAsia, which opens with the Japanese classic Door.  Completing the day’s screenings will be other titles such as God Is a Bullet (directed by Nick Cassavetes and starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), Green Night, Blood by Brad Anderson and When Evil Lurks, the winner of the recent Sitges Film Festival.

And in Galería Central, the exhibition space of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, the show “Home Scary Home” will continue, with pieces designed by the students of the School of Architecture of the University of Malaga, which recreate various “mini-rooms” with the most terrifying domestic spaces used in fantastic and horror films. The exhibition will be open to the public from 7 to 23 November.
