<\/a><\/p>\nParece ser que el culebr\u00f3n que empez\u00f3 el pasado setiembre con la intenci\u00f3n de la Professional Triathletes Organization (PTO) de comprar IRONMAN, a\u00fan no ha llegado a su fin.<\/p>\n
Por aquel entonces, la llegada de capital de la mano de Michael Moritz<\/strong> y su fondo de inversiones Crankstart Investments,\u00a0<\/strong>a\u00fan no hab\u00eda sido anunciada, ni tampoco la Collins Cup. Por lo que el escenario y la propuesta que se present\u00f3 entonces, fue declinada a los pocos d\u00edas por Wanda Sports, propietario de IRONMAN.<\/p>\n La llegada de las dos ‘oleadas millonarias’, con 2 millones de premios en la Collins Cup, a los que se sumaron 2 millones m\u00e1s a repartir en el ranking de los 100 mejores, plantearon un nuevo horizonte en el mundo del triatl\u00f3n profesional<\/p>\n Recordamos que parte de la intenci\u00f3n de compra de la PTO – dejando a parte los obvios motivos financieros – recae sobre la idea de que IRONMAN debe pertenecer a los triatletas, para mantener la pureza y el esp\u00edritu del deporte, mucho antes que el inter\u00e9s econ\u00f3mico con el que se procede a d\u00eda de hoy.<\/p>\n Wanda no tiene ninguna obligaci\u00f3n burocr\u00e1tica para responder a la segunda oferta por parte de la PTO,\u00a0 aunque s\u00ed que lo hizo en su primera intentona, pero lo hizo de manera poco ortodoxa en este \u00faltimo caso, alegando poca claridad de detalles.<\/p>\n Sin embargo, supimos d\u00edas despu\u00e9s que Wanda estar\u00eda dispuesta a vender la factor\u00eda de la ‘M-Dot’ por un precio de 1.000 millones de d\u00f3lares, casi 300 m\u00e1s que en el momento de su compra.<\/p>\n Lo curioso de todo, es que la PTO declara que no ha recibido ninguna contestaci\u00f3n formal a su propuesta de adquisici\u00f3n, y eso es algo que no ha gustado para nada entre el consejo de administraci\u00f3n de la Organizaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n Llegados a este punto, la PTO ha advertido que cualquier movimiento de compra\/venta que pueda iniciar la World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) –\u00a0 que es el nombre que recibe el comit\u00e9 de gesti\u00f3n de IRONMAN – podr\u00eda afectar negativamente a la franquicia.<\/p>\n Recordamos que la PTO est\u00e1 formada por los mejores triatletas del mundo, y estar\u00eda por ver si atletas de la talla de Jan Frodeno, Daniela Ryf, G\u00f3mez Noya, Lucy Charles o Sebastian Kienle,\u00a0<\/strong>podr\u00edan llegar a boicotear a IRONMAN sin participar en sus pruebas.<\/p>\n Algo poco probable a d\u00eda de hoy, ya que muchos de estos cracks est\u00e1n a sueldo de esta marca, y cobran grandes\u00a0 cantidades para participar en sus eventos.<\/p>\n Finalmente, la PTO se vuelve a mostrar dispuesta al di\u00e1logo y con esperanzas de entablar una relaci\u00f3n comercial, que a ojos de la Organizaci\u00f3n, puede llegar a ser muy provechosa para ambas partes.<\/p>\n Otro vuelta de tuerca que podr\u00eda dar la PTO, ser\u00eda la compra de Challenge Family, con la que s\u00ed que guarda buena relaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n La ubicaci\u00f3n\u00a0 de la Collins Cup en Samor\u00edn ha sido aprovada por la junta de la otra gran franquicia de la larga distancia, que seguro que se habr\u00e1 beneficiado de otra forma para ‘ceder’ el complejo deportivo x-Bionic a la PTO.<\/p>\n A todo esto, se le suma la actual crisis del coronavirus, que est\u00e1 trastocando a los mercados burs\u00e1tiles, en los que d\u00eda s\u00ed y d\u00eda tambi\u00e9n, ocurren descensos repentinos de grandes empresas y multinacionales.<\/p>\n A continuaci\u00f3n, adjuntamos la copia del comunicado emitido por la PTO<\/strong><\/p>\n FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 4th March 2020<\/em><\/p>\n LONDON, ENGLAND\u2013: The Professional Triathletes Organisation today released the following letter sent to the Board of Directors of Wanda Sports Group Company Limited on 3rd March 2020 advising the Board that in its view the value of the Ironman Business in any possible sale would be adversely affected by its failure to engage in constructive discussions with the PTO.<\/em><\/p>\n Board of Directors, Wanda Sports Group Company Limited, Wanda Plaza, Tower B, 9th Floor, 93 Jianguo Road Chaoyang District, Beijing, China, Attn: Mr. Yimin Gao\u2013CEO<\/em><\/p>\n Andrew Messick, Chief Executive Officer, World Triathlon Corporation, 3407 W. Martin Luther King Blvd, Suite 100, Tampa, Florida 33607<\/em><\/p>\n Dear Members of the Board:<\/em><\/p>\n We are writing on behalf of the Professional Triathletes Organisation (the \u201cPTO\u201d) and note with interest your public announcement that the Wanda Sports Group Company Limited (\u201cWSG\u201d) is in preliminary discussions concerning the possible sale of its worldwide triathlon and mass participation business (the \u201cWTC Business\u201d). We further note that the WSG Board has yet to respond to our letter dated 3rd of February 2020, in which we advised the Board that the PTO is prepared to enter into discussions regarding the acquisition of the WTC Business and to consider an all-cash transaction or one in which the existing shareholders of WSG are able to participate in the growth of the WTC Business that the PTO and its professionals are uniquely able to deliver. In our letter we also advised the WSG Board that we are prepared to work with other groups who may be interested in acquiring the WTC Business.<\/em><\/p>\n We strongly believe that our involvement in the sale process will enable the WSG shareholders to maximise the value of any sale of the WTC Business, and failure to allow the PTO the opportunity to be part of any sale process will adversely affect the WSG shareholders. We believe that this proposal represents a unique opportunity to realise significant value for WSG shareholders and the employees of WTC, and that the PTO can uniquely provide a healthy and growing environment for the WTC Business. The PTO and North Point Advisors, our financial advisors, are prepared to begin discussions forthwith with your senior management and your financial advisors and to sign a customary confidentiality agreement in order to commence certain due diligence.<\/em><\/p>\n We hope that you share our enthusiasm and that the WSG Board, in the exercise of its fiduciary duties, delivers a prompt and favourable reply to us. As the WSG Board has failed to respond to our previous good faith approach, we will publicly release a copy of this letter. We would urge you to convey to any potential bidders with whom you may be in discussions our view that the cooperation of the PTO in the operations of the WTC Business is vital to its valuation and its ongoing and future success and, further, in our view, the continued failure of the WSG Board or any potential bidder with whom you may be in discussions to engage with the PTO in a constructive and cooperative manner may have an adverse effect on the WTC Business and the WSG shareholders.
