Course Syllabus

The SkyAlps MPL (Multi Pilot Licence) program offered by AELO Swiss Academy is a structured and highly specialized training pathway designed to prepare aspiring commercial pilots for a career with SkyAlps. The syllabus is divided into four distinct phases: Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, and Type Rating, each progressively building the knowledge and skills needed to operate as a First Officer on the Dash 8 Q400 aircraft.

Basic Phase:
- This phase focuses on foundational aviation knowledge, including theoretical subjects such as aerodynamics, navigation, meteorology, and air law. Trainees also start initial flight training with emphasis on basic flight controls, maneuvers, and aircraft handling.
Intermediate Phase:
- During this phase, trainees develop more advanced flight skills, including instrument flight training (IFR) and more complex maneuvers. Theoretical learning continues with in-depth coverage of advanced topics like flight planning, performance, and multi-crew cooperation (MCC).
Advanced Phase:
- The advanced phase is designed to simulate real-world airline operations. Trainees practice multi-crew coordination, communication, and decision-making in a simulated airline environment. They also engage in extensive line-oriented flight training (LOFT), preparing them for the responsibilities of a co-pilot in multi-pilot settings.
Type Rating Phase:
- The final phase focuses specifically on training for the Dash 8 Q400 aircraft, SkyAlps’ primary fleet. This phase includes aircraft systems training, flight simulators, and hands-on experience with the Dash 8 Q400, ensuring trainees are fully prepared to operate this specific aircraft as First Officers.

Upon completing the 16-month program, trainees receive their MPL and a Dash 8 Q400 Type Rating, along with a guaranteed job as a First Officer at SkyAlps. The program’s syllabus not only covers the technical aspects of flying but also emphasizes teamwork, safety, and airline operations, making it a comprehensive training course tailored for regional airline operations.
